Sedation Dentistry
overview
Dental Excellence in a Down-to-Earth Atmosphere
Researchers say that anywhere between 50% to 80% of adults in the United States have some form of dental anxiety. Some cases are more severe than others, and it’s not uncommon for anxious patients to go out of their way to avoid dental care even if it’s badly needed. Do you sometimes feel like you have to force yourself to walk into the dentist’s office? If you schedule an appointment with Dr. Bonds, we can help you relax during your visit with sedation dentistry at our Plano, TX, dental office.

Oral Conscious Dental Sedation
Before your appointment, we’ll prescribe a sedative for you in pill form. You’ll take it about an hour before your appointment begins so that you’ll already be physically and mentally relaxed once you begin your treatment. As you can probably guess from the word “conscious”, you’ll still be awake for the procedure; that said, time will seem to pass by very quickly, and many people find they have little to no memory of the treatment afterwards.
Nitrous Oxide Dental Sedation
Nitrous oxide sedation is commonly used during routine dental appointments to help take the edge off for mildly anxious patients. The gas is mixed with oxygen and inhaled via a nasal mask. You won’t be asleep; you’ll be able to follow our instructions, answer our questions, and let us know about your comfort level so that we can make any necessary adjustments. After we’ve removed the mask, it will only take a few minutes for you to recover from the effects of nitrous oxide and return to your regular activities.
